ABSTRACTS Background: Medicinal plants are one of the major sources used in treatment of bacterial diseases Ojective: The studies aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity of Leaves extract of Anogeissus leiocarpus and Vitex doniana on clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. Methods: The Leaves of Anogeissus leiocarpus and Vitex doniana were dried at room temperature for two (2) weeks within which uniformity was attained. The dried leaves of each of the plants were grinded into powder separately and extracted with 95% methanol by percolation method in which the suspension was filtered using whatmann’s filter paper. Soxhlet Extraction was also done in which fresh solvent was added and filtered continuosly to ensure that the herbal materials are fully extracted. 150mg of each plant extract were dissolved in 10ml of the dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) and Stock solutions was formed, five different concentration of each of the two plants extract were made i.e 30,60,90,120 and 150mg/ml. The Antibacterial activities of these two different plants were determined by Disc diffusion method in which the prepared discs was dipped in the extracts prepared and dried at 45oC for 1hr and then planted on the media containing test microorganisms. Results: The crude methanol extracts of the Anogeissus leiocarpus and Vitex doniana show broad growth inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. The minimum inhibition concentration of both Anogeissus leiocaipus and Vitex doniana was found to be at 90mg/ml against S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and E.coli. Conclusion: The present investigation shows the vital role of these extracts in the treatment of some clinical Diseases and this finding proved that traditional usage of these plants as medicine is effective particularly to the tested organisms and this research can be used as bases for further investigations.
